JUNE 1. 2013. Eliminate the Gap with Curriculum that Honors Culture, Language and Heritage

Dear Task Force Members and Allies,

After our Film Festival, we were excited about the possibilities with the Critically Compassionate Cultural Curriculum (Mexican American Studies).  Then the Journal published two items.  An editorial (from the Journal) supporting the Governor’s proposed changes to education and shortly after, a great Cover Story on Dual Language instruction,  a method we support as part of the curriculum our students and teachers need to increase student achievement and graduation rates.  The article featured our own Gilberto Lobo and his students!  We submitted our editorial on Tuesday and the editorial staff picked it up immediately for today’s Journal.

Our reasoning for holding a Film Festival was to Inform you, Hear from you, and to Provide an Opportunity for everyone to learn from each other, thus the Community Forum.  Another reason was to inform the media and ask them to publish stories about curriculum that has proven to be effective with our students.
